The data sub-committee of the Spatial Committee for Information (CSI) through the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) have appointed AfricaScope in partnership with EIS-Africa to conduct a project on Defining the research criteria for the identification of South Africa’s
core spatial datasets and data custodians for the Committee on Spatial Information. AfricaScope and EIS-Africa have been nintegrally involved in defining the fundamental geospatial datasets for Africa for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The project will be conducted over a three month period and will involve a desktop study of releveant legislation and previous studies and interviews with key stakeholders. An internet based survey will be used to gain insights from a broader audience of people in the geoinformation industry in South Africa. The findings of the research will be presented to members of the CSI data committee in the form of a report.
