A geomarketing tool has been developed for Iveco to assist them in their review of dealerships in southern Africa. The tool enables information on Iveco dealerships in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana to be viewed. Information is also provided on all their competitors in the South Africa. Africascope assisted in Iveco in defining their Dealership Areas of Responsibility (DAR) and integrated volume sales data for their vehciles and that of their competitors into the system. The volume data for Man, Mercedes, Scania, UD Trucks and VW was incorporated into the system.
AfricaScope was commissioned by Nissan South Africa to assist it optimize the location of its dealerships. Africascope used accessibility modelling to identify the optimum location of new dealerships using various options. On the demand side information on where new developments are being planned and where people of a particular socio-economic character are located was used to define the tarket market. The location of existing dealerships was taken into consideration and optimum sites for new dealerships were considered.
AfricaScope has been commissioned by OneSys to do an analysis of their branch locations, target market and sites for new branches. AfricaScope uses a suite of innovative methods including geocoding their branches and customers and analysis of customer data to define the unique trade areas of their branches. Using proprietary data available to AfricaScope and its partners, it is able to identify other unique markets for companies.
AfricaScope completed two reports for the Royal bafokeng Nation (RBN). The first was on a Population and Use of Land Audit (PULA). This project involved mapping the all buildings in the area, defining the land use and counting all the people living within the formal villages of the RBN. A questionnaire was completed for all households in the area and extensive information collected on the poipulation. One of the main purposes of this study was to get a handle onb the number of people living in the RBN.
A Citizen Report Card commissioned by the World Bank in Accra, Ghana is showing its value. The purpose of the Citizen Report Card is to understand what the service needs of people are so that a social compact can be drawn up between service providers and citizens. The results of the Citizen Report Card have been used to target needed interventions in suburbs of Ghana's capital city. Similar exercises are desperately needed in South African municipalities - maybe there is opportunity for lessons to be learnt from our Ghanian counterparts.

The main source of the data is the World Banks African Development Indicators database that has been modified and spatialized in the development of this new product.
